quick review - elephant (2003)

so i'm not going to lie....i was shocked by this.
elephant is the beautiful and horrifying film by Gus Van Sant (previous flicks like: good will hunting, milk, my own private idaho). this haunting story follows several students through their routines of a seemingly normal school day. there is always a sense of 'looming doom' throughout the film, which is captured in each shot by the artistic camera work. without giving too much away, don't watch this movie expecting a happy ending, but it's definitely one to watch, purely for the shocking realism it showcases. loosely based on a real story, elephant constantly involves you in the action and draws you into a situation that leaves you affected by its culmination. its short (but not so sweet). its gripping. its beautiful. its definitely one to see

  1. Elephant is definitely on my 'to see' list- I loved the previous GVS films (never saw Psycho tho). If it is similarly themed to Kevin, thats an amzing movie- Tilda Swinton & the boy who played Kevin are impressive & the concept/stylised cinematography works really well with the topic. It would be so much better if you didnt know what Kevin is about but it is still great- I didnt know about one of the 'big twsits' - highly recommended!
Will look out for Elephant this week!
