how good are trailers! not only are they
basically two and a half minute movies, but they’re also like these secrets,
that only movie goers know about. one of my favourite tools of procrastination
is hitting up imdb and scanning
through the ‘coming soon’. every now and again I run into something that is
seemingly familiar, I’ll pop onto youtube and get happy. i would normally never
admit this on a public medium (especially due to my mother’s regular perusing
of the blog), but i wasted a hefty hour or two last week hunting down some true
trailer gems. i had just watched bridesmaids, for perhaps the seventh time,
and it put me in a super doper light, lovely, lonely and laughed-out frame of
mind. the resulting trailer picks were consequently rather…hmmm….for lack of a
better word, ‘girly’. from the copious internet i burnt through in viewing the
many, many trailers, these five were my favourites:
lola
versus – directed by daryl wein, this cutesy indie
rom-com fits quite comfortably into a female take on break-ups in a very
500-days-of-summer-esque manner. the 1m 53s mini clip showcased all the
necessary assets to hook me in a pry open my wallet for a ticket come opening
day; music (i was sold after the first song…happens to be a favourite band),
pretty people and punch lines.
your
sister’s sister – lynn shelton gives us a beautiful looking film. starring emily blunt,
rosemarie dewitt and mark duplass and a hot and heavy love triangle scenario.
what i got from this two and a half minutes
(apart from emily blunt being amazing as ever) was a simple story in a
fairly simple setting; nothing overly complicated, which begs the idea of a
reasonably simple satisfaction after watching it. Its tempting me to the
cinema.
to
rome with love – WOODY ALLEN!! (Wieeeeww!!! Yay!
Woo!) look, I wont lie, this trailer is basically the reason for this post
today. I saw this the other day and almost wet myself with excitement. I am a
self confessed woody fan, and I will probably be the first in line when this
bad boy lights up the screen. in vintage woody style to rome with love greets you with familiar faces; alec Baldwin,
jesse eisenberg, ellen page, Penelope cruz, judy davis, greta gerwig (leading
lady in lola versus), Roberto
benigni, and old woody himself. The whimsical accordion melody playing
throughout the two minutes is joyous, as is the comedy…of course. i am so excited.
seeking
a friend for the end of the world – in her first
directing role, Lorene scafaria delivers quite an interesting piece of film. it’s
the ‘what if’ scenario you always ask yourself (and others) – what would you
do with your life if the world was going to explode in 3 weeks? steve carell
and keira knightley as leading man and lady aren’t to awkward and weird as the
dynamic duo on screen. This idea is just super intriguing, and I love seeing
‘the world’ in these sorts of movies. How would everything continue to function
if there was a time limit (21 days) on the existence of life on earth? Might
give me some ideas if ever I’m in the same situation.
ruby
sparks – from the folks that gave the world little miss sunshine comes the
happy-go-lucky tale of love and magic ruby
sparks. if you have ever seen stranger
than fiction with will ferrell, you can see the immediate similarities. From
fictional to factual; boy is a writer, boy writes girl, girl comes to life, boy
loves girl……..then what? Hopefully there is something in this film that leaves
a uniquely sweet taste in your mouth, much like little miss sunshine did.
